Theater Updates (and Other Work)

Prisoners (2013):

This is a great suspense/thriller that I heard nothing of until this year. It is definitely one of my favorite movies of 2013 and stars an ensemble cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Terrence Howard and Maria Bello.

Dallas Buyer's Club-2013 (Possible Spoiler Alert):

I was not a big fan of Dallas Buyer's Club because the main character Woodruff (Matthew McConaughey) was not likable. It was hard to get beyond the jerk exterior although at times, his humanity began to shine through.

Woodruff contracts the HIV virus from highly promiscuous behavior. He is a complicated character that goes on a journey to find the medicine and the help that he needs to deal with his condition.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013):

Not my favorite movie at all. Too many drugs, sex and rock 'n roll scenes for me! In my opinion, this movie should have been rated beyond "R" and pushes mild porn!

Blue Jasmine-2013 (When Life Apart):

This Woody Allen movie has been reported to have been based on his ex-wife Mia Farrow. There has been no confirmation from Allen that --that was the case but it did circulate when this movie came out. It is the very complicated story of a woman who cannot figure out life after her very rich husband goes to jail and she is forced to move in with her less than rich sister.

Fruitvale Station (2013):

One of the best movies of the year to help us to move beyond the constraints of judgement and comfort zones. This true story rocked the Bay area and coming to the big screen, we were further moved by how an imperfect young man's life was cut short, before his time.
